About WhatPayment
WhatPayment is an independent editorial publication focused on payment processors for online businesses. We help creators, founders, and operators choose the right tool through honest comparisons grounded in real testing and public documentation.
Who writes WhatPayment
Gaetan Chardon · Founder & Editor
WhatPayment is written and edited by me, Gaetan Chardon. Before this site, I worked as a consultant at a Big Four firm, then founded ARKO, a digital marketing agency that runs paid acquisition and product launches for online businesses. That work puts me on the operator side of payments every day — moving real volume, handling chargebacks and account reviews, and untangling multi-currency payouts and merchant-of-record questions across Stripe, Whop, Lemon Squeezy, Paddle and the rest.
I started WhatPayment because almost every "best payment processor" page I found ranked tools by affiliate commission, not by what actually works when you are the one shipping products and getting paid. So I test the tools, read the fine print, and write the comparison I wish I had had. When a tool is the right fit I say so — and I tell you when it is not, even when there is a commission on the line.
What we do
We test, compare, and review payment processors used by digital product sellers, course creators, online communities, SaaS companies, and high-risk merchants. Every comparison is based on a defined methodology that prioritizes facts, sources, and use-case fit over commission size.
Why we exist
Most existing comparisons are either thin marketing pages or affiliate listicles that rank vendors by commission rather than fit. We believe creators and founders deserve a single source they can trust to make informed payment infrastructure decisions. We took the position of independent reviewer because no one was filling it credibly in this niche.
How we make money
WhatPayment participates in affiliate programs with several of the vendors we cover. When you click an affiliate link and complete a qualifying action, we may earn a commission. You never pay more. This funds the editorial work, testing budget, and infrastructure. We disclose every affiliate relationship at the article level. See our full affiliate disclosure.
Editorial independence
No vendor pays us for placement. No vendor reviews our content before publication. We pick our recommendations based on testing, public documentation, and creator feedback. When commercial relationships create a conflict of interest, we say so explicitly in the article.
